The Caves

The Wellington Caves Complex offers three different guided tours; the Cathedral Cave, the Gaden Cave and the Fossil and Phosphate Mine. The tours are conducted daily* and each take around 1 hour to complete.

*with the exception of Christmas Day.

Wellington Caves are happy to announce that will be running Cathedral Cave tours and Discovery Lab sessions only, with reduced numbers commencing Monday 6th July

Due to government restrictions the Fossil and Phosphate Mine and the Gaden Cave remain closed as they have not been deemed COVID Safe.

We are very excited to commence our new Fossil Finding sessions in our Discovery Lab  where you can discover fossils from one million years ago. Learn about Australian Megafauna, dig through dirt from our Fossil and Phosphate Mine and see what you can uncover!

Please Note:

  • The Cathedral & Gaden Caves have handrails and are easily accessible to those with reasonable mobility. There are 300 stairs in the Cathedral Cave and 240 stairs in the Gaden Cave. Comfortable walking shoes are required.
  • The Cathedral Cave and Gaden Cave do not have wheelchair access. However the Fossil and Phosphate Mine is wheelchair and stroller accessible.
  • Hard hats are supplied and must be worn in the Fossil and Phosphate Mine. Enclosed shoes is also essential.
